Garden (linked haiku)

What was and will be again

This earth is greedy
consumes our sweat and our hope
even our gold rings

But see what it gives!
For a penny’s worth of seed
masses of blossoms

For our devotion
We reap beautiful harvests
in every color

Every broken nail
every uncleanable foot
brings Winter largesse

Even the small ones-
finches and baby rabbits-
find plenty and more

How can we not love
working this generous ground
feel its life like ours?
