Morning Light

a song for the live of light

In the author’s gardens

Early morning light is magic
turns the garden to stained glass:
half-wild rabbit, half grown, too
lopes into cover of wide leaves
thanks you for the apples-
Morning glory vines vie for dominance
Of the night light, of the tomato cage-
Butternut runs the beds
their length and breadth-
Chinese chives send tight buds
sailing high to spread later seed
even as remains of kale pods
now empty of seed
shelter their new sprouts.
A hundred sparrows sing
Their sharp morning hymn to the sun.
