Murderous Tits
1 min readMar 3, 2020
a case for critical thinking
Mushrooms that look like soccer balls,
Spring rain that freezes as it falls,
A flock of seagulls in the city,
The viper’s head — so smooth and pretty,
Lovely carnivorous butterflies,
A trusted friend who tells us lies —
All these are like the murderous tit
Whose looks and ways are a poor fit.
So anything that’s unaligned
With what we already have in mind —
What doesn’t fit our preconceptions,
Confirmations, mild exceptions —
Must be rejected, must be feared,
To protect ideas we’ve revered;
An open mind is such a threat
That most of us don’t have one yet.
