submitting to love

Fractal tops of tallest trees
Shudder in a frigid breeze–
Early morning golden light,
Hawks and crows in looping flight–
Black and brown dogs playing rough
Pretending to be wild and tough.

But the wiser inward eye
Sees beyond what’s just nearby:

Seeds in soil now crack and split
Reaching for a spring sunlit–
Richness in the compost bin
Waits for us to dig it in–
Music locked in by the cold
Will return when birds grow bold.

Even more important, though,
Images from memory flow:

As your fingers touch my face,
Sending me into subspace,
Where I hear only your voice
Rising, falling, at your choice–
All things to be grateful for;
Loving you, I love life more!
