Sonnet for an Election Year

Resent the one percent for being rich
Call women who refuse to date you “bitch.”
If someone’s skin is darker or much lighter,
And you must work with him, be a back biter.
When you discover that my politics
Are liberal, say that I make you sick!
Or, if I’m more conservative than you are,
Dismiss me as a rat from out the sewer!
Such pure polarization makes you strong,
And shouting loudest makes opponents wrong;
So never stop to think! You might agree
With something that allows you to like me.
Defeating others is the only way
To win at life, so, thoughtless, join the fray!
