Time and Touch

sonnet for your magic

Time, that fussy, ego-driven toddler
That pulls on all our sleeves and whispers, “Now!”
That makes us all believe in its own vision–
A universe that spins, but Time says how–
One touch from you releases me from all that
Time’s tyranny would yet make me believe,
And in your eyes I see the years expand to
One graceful wash of love’s eternity.
My spirit, bowed to yours for its safekeeping,
Grows less bound to the body that you make
More beautiful with each day’s sweet caresses,
Makes my love forever yours to take.
So do the words “make love” acquire their meaning,
And spirits blend, Time’s harsh rule contravening.
